Incidents on Market Square

With regard to incidents that occurred on the Market Square on 2nd. January 2017, and subsequent correspondence received from a number of complainants, Atherstone Town Council wish to state that they have no association with any group concerned. Anyone attending the event did so as an individual and not as a representative of the Council. Atherstone Town Council gives permission to a number of organisations to hold events on the Market Square, who have to satisfy certain requirements, including compliance with the Law. The event organiser has to agree to complete relative documentation, including risk assessments, as the Town Council has no involvement in the organisation there is no neccessity to either approve or hold a copy of the assessment. The Town Council does not have any responsibility towards the licensing of any premises; this is a matter for the police and the local licensing authority, North Warwickshire Borough Council.    The Town Council does not condone any act by those who cause harassment, alarm and distress, or commit criminal acts. The Council has been asked by Warwickshire Police to stress that any person who was at the event and has CCTV or photographic evidence of those persons committing such offences should contact Warwickshire Police quoting the reference 140 of 02/01/2017.
